Where are expanded graphite gaskets not recommended?

Pure expanded graphite is not recommended for continuous use in strongly oxidizing environments at high temperature, such as concentrated nitric acid, high-concentration sulfuric acid, or molten salts. What is the difference between expanded graphite and compressed non-asbestos (CNAF) gaskets?

CNAF is a composite of fibers and elastomeric binders, with good general-purpose sealing ability but limited temperature range, typically -40°C to 290°C, and limited chemical resistance. Expanded graphite is a pure, binder-free material with a much wider temperature range, superior chemical resistance to solvents and hydrocarbons, better thermal conductivity, and lower sealing stress requirements.
